The Forever Young Seniors’ Club celebrated its third anniversary in style on Monday, February 24, at the Ocean View multi-purpose centre.

Founded by Mutheera Fortune of Mutheera’s Projects, the club has become a beacon of joy and companionship for senior citizens, with the support of The CareCompany Community, a local non-profit dedicated to uplifting the lives of the elderly.

Launched on Valentine’s Day in 2022, the club has steadily grown, and now has 97 members who come together to enjoy exercise, team-building activities, and shared experiences in a safe and welcoming environment, said Ms Fortune.

To commemorate the milestone, seniors dressed in red and white, reflecting the day’s theme of gratitude and its founding day – Valentine’s Day.

The seniors were escorted by youths from the community who are part of a youth club run by Mutheera’s Projects.

Entertainment for the day was provided by Cape Town Ceilidhs, a Scottish dancing group, whose lively performances made sure the the seniors got moving.

Several representatives involved with the club, including The CareCompany Community and Guardians of the Deep, an organisation that coordinates environmental education programmes for the seniors, were also present to show their support and were honoured with certificates of appreciation, recognising their contributions to the initiative.

The recently established men’s seniors’ club, founded last year, also joined in the festivities, further enriching the sense of community and inclusion.

Ms Fortune said she was grateful to everyone who had played a role in the club’s success.

“This club is about creating a space where seniors can have fun, engage in meaningful activities, and continue making cherished memories,” she said.
