Athlone police together with Law Enforcement conducted a multi-discipline operation resulting in R368 800 worth of contraventions.

The operation last Wednesday, March 26, at 1pm, involved five vehicle control points, and resulted in 50 vehicles stopped, 20 vehicles searched, 30 people searched, seven fines issued to the value of R11 000, and 2111 counterfeit CDs confiscated.

All of this amounted to R368 800, said Athlone police station spokeswoman, Sergeant Zita Norman.

The next day, Thursday March 27, Athlone police together with Law Enforcement, the City's Health Department and the immigration department conducted a compliance operation on shops in Gatesville. This resulted in the closure of one spaza shop, 11 people searched, one R5000 fine issued, and 11 arrests under the Immigration Act.
