A 43-year-old South African teacher, Cowan Reed Titus, from the Bluff, has been declared missing after the high-rise building he lived in collapsed during a powerful earthquake in Mandalay, Myanmar, on Friday March 28.
Titus had relocated to Myanmar just under a year ago after securing employment as an educator at the Higher Campus International School. He was living on the tenth floor of the Sky Villa apartment block, which was destroyed when a 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck the region. The natural disaster has claimed the lives of at least 3 500 people.
His family, who had been trying to contact him since news of the earthquake broke, reached out to Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) on Tuesday after all attempts to reach him failed.
Titus’s mother, Samantha Titus, shared an emotional message filled with hope and faith.
“God is more than able. We have seen it. Who are we to deny what He can do. It’s gonna happen. Let the Maker through. He is gonna move and make a path for Cowan.
“With all the Faith in our circle and in the room, anything is possible, so we need to trust and believe,” she said.
“We have come this far by Faith and can’t turn back now. He is not done. He is a miracle worker and all it takes is for us to Trust Him, believe in Him with Faith and Prayer. Our Mighty Father is bringing our boy home safe and alive. Cowan our son , brother and friend is coming home to us because I know and believe that he heard all our prayers , all our thoughts , all our wishes and all our love that gives him the strength to fight . Our Heavenly Father and angels are by his side and giving him the motivation, the perseverance, the courage , the ability to fight to come home to us . He knows that we are all here for him and will never give up on him or on God’s word.
“Come home my boy, we waiting with open arms for you,” said his mother.
The Titus family is expected to travel to Myanmar on Friday to assist in the search for Cowan and to be closer to the ongoing recovery efforts.
Reaction Unit South Africa’s Prem Balram also confirmed that they will be engaging with authorities in Myanmar to support the search and is appealing to the public for any possible leads.
