Zulu King, His Majesty King Misuzulu KaZwelithini, has appointed key leaders to strengthen the Zulu kingdom’s governance and pblic engagement structures.
Inkosi Yesizwe SakwaButhelezi, Prince Ntuthukoyezwe Zuzifa Buthelezi has been appointed as the chairperson of the King’s Council of the Zulu Kingdom, and Prince Thulani Zulu as the official spokesperson of the Zulu Royal family and the Zulu Kingdom.
The appointments were formalised during a ceremonial signing held in Durban on Wednesday.
The appointments are part of the ongoing renewal and reinforcement of the institutional structure of the Zulu Kingdom, as led by His Majesty the King. These leaders have been entrusted with critical responsibilities that will ensure the dignity, unity, and cultural legacy of the Zulu nation remain safeguarded and advanced.
A statement released by the new spokesman Prince Thulani Zulu, describes Inkosi Yesizwe SakwaButhelezi, Prince Ntuthukoyezwe Zuzifa Buthelezi, as a “seasoned leader of royal descent with deep traditional insight”.
“He will preside over the King’s Council, a body tasked with advising His Majesty on matters of tradition, governance, and national unity. He will work closely with the Zulu Royal Chancellor, who has been designated as the implementing agent for all decisions and resolutions adopted by the Council. The King’s Council will also channel its administrative functions through the Private Office of His Majesty The King, the Kingdom’s central administrative authority, led by the Chief Director and Private Secretary to the King,” read the statement.
The statement further said that Prince Thulani Zulu was a respected figure in royal communication and diplomacy.
He will serve as the official spokesperson, representing the Royal Family and the Kingdom in all public engagements and media communications. His mandate includes managing public messaging, protocol, and maintaining the integrity of the Zulu monarchy's voice across all platforms. He will operate in full alignment with the private office of the King, and co-ordinate with both the Office of the Royal Chancellor and the King’s Support Office located within the Office of the Premier of KwaZulu-Natal.
Both Inkosi Zuzifa Buthelezi and Prince Thulani Zulu, in the statement, said they were humbled at the opportunity to serve the throne, His Majesty, Indlunkulu, Amakhosi and the Zulu nation.
“These appointments reaffirm His Majesty’s commitment to strengthening the pillars of traditional leadership while ensuring that all governance structures function in harmony, transparency, and unity. The appointed leaders will convene a press conference in due course to officially announce their mandate and unpack their roles and responsibilities to the public at large,” read the statement.
