Ward councillor Izabel Sherry joined the Fish Hoek Lions Club on Sunday, May 25, to help prepare meals for Mobile Meals, a non-profit organisation that has been serving the elderly in the valley for more than 40 years.

Mobile Meals, formerly the Fish Hoek Service Centre, delivers warm meals to elderly or infirm residents who are unable to leave their homes. The meals are cooked by volunteers who form part of cooking teams.

Each team is given R850 to prepare a meal for 25 people, consisting of a meat dish, vegetables, a pudding or cupcake, and fruit. Cooking takes place at the False Bay Hospital kitchen or in volunteers' homes, said Mobile Meals chairperson Denise Bateman.

The Lions Club joined the monthly cooking roster to assist the organisation in its mission. Hunger is one of the core focus areas of the Lions Club.

Club president Mandy Proctor said the club believed in serving its community with compassion and dignity.

"The Mobile Meals project is a labour of love where many community members are involved, ensuring that elderly or infirm residents who are unable to leave their homes receive warm, nutritious meals," she said.

She added that the club was "deeply grateful" to councillor Sherry for joining them.

"Her involvement helped make a meaningful difference. This project is a shining example of what can be achieved when local organisations and community leaders work together," she said.

Ms Sherry said Mobile Meals was a great initiative and she would love to see more members of the community get involved.

Ms Bateman said Mobile Meals was grateful to Ms Sherry for her help.
