Police have launched a manhunt for the suspects who killed a sergeant in Vrygrond, Muizenberg, during the early hours of Friday, May 30.
Residents were shocked at the discovery of the 48-year-old police officer who was found gunned down next to his vehicle outside his home at around 5am.
He was in uniform and on his way to report for duty at Wynberg police station .
Police spokesperson, Colonel Andrè Traut, said the Hawks have been assigned to lead the investigation.
“At approximately 5am, the body of the 48-year-old police sergeant was discovered outside his home in Thys Witbooi Street, Vrygrond. He had sustained fatal gunshot wounds," said Col Traut.
"At the time of the incident, he was in uniform and was en route to report for duty at Wynberg SAPS. His family members, who were inside the residence, were unharmed.
"The Provincial Commissioner of the Western Cape, Lieutenant-General Thembisile Patekile, has instructed that no resource be spared in the urgent pursuit of those responsible for the murder."
Patekile said: “An attack on any member of the South African Police Service will be met with the full force of the law. We will not rest until justice is served."
On the same morning, police reported the murder of a taxi driver in the nearby Xakabantu informal settlement, who was shot and killed while sitting inside his taxi.
Police spokesperson Anelisiwe Manyana, said Muizenberg police are investigating murder.
"According to reports, police members attended to the crime scene where upon arrival they were informed that the victim was shot multiple times.
"The victim was declared deceased at the scene by the medical personnel.
"The motive behind the attack forms part of police investigation. The unknown suspect/s who fled the scene are yet to be arrested," said Ms Manyana .
In a third incident in Muizenberg, police registered another murder case for investigation following a shooting which claimed the life of a man in his mid-twenties on Friday May 30 around 10pm in Overcome informal settlement.
Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Malcolm Pojie, said: "The members responded to the crime scene where they found the body of the unknown deceased who had succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds to the body. The circumstances of the incident and the motive forms part of ongoing investigation. all efforts are made to identify and arrest the suspect(s)."

Attempts to reach the Community Policing Forum for comment on the ongoing shootings in the area were ignored.
