The Fish Hoek Valley Historical Association will host Ocean View librarian Fatima Kiel as the guest speaker at their July meeting.

The event takes place on Thursday, July 10, at the Fish Hoek Library side hall.

Doors open at 5pm, and the talk starts at 5.30pm.

Ms Kiel’s talk, titled My Passion – Ocean View Library, will reflect on how the library has grown alongside the Ocean View community, playing a key role in education, partnerships and social development.

She will also speak about how the library has adapted to meet modern needs and highlight some of the recognition it has received over the years.

“I’m excited to speak about everything we’re achieving as a team at the library, and to share how hard we’re working to uplift our community. I hope everyone can attend, " Ms Kiel told the Echo.

With 37 years of librarian experience, Ms Kiel is well known in the area and was once nominated as a Super Hero of Libraries.

She was born in Simon’s Town, where her family was affected by forced removals, and she later grew up and matriculated in Ocean View. She is a mother of twin daughters, a first-time grandmother, and remains a passionate advocate for libraries and learning.

Membership for 2025 is R50 per person and can be paid at the Fish Hoek Valley Museum or at the meeting. Entry fees are R20 for members and R30 for visitors — cash only.
