In honour of Women’s Month, the Fish Hoek Valley Historical Association will host a talk titled Women of the Valley, focusing on the roles of women throughout the region’s history.

The event poses the question: We’ve learned much about “Fish Hoek Man” – but what about the women who stood beside him?

Margaret Gundry, a volunteer at the Fish Hoek Valley Museum, has explored the stories of these fascinating women and is eager to share her discoveries.

Her talk will explore the roles women played from ancient times—revealed through archaeological discoveries—to more recent centuries.

Who were some of the significant valley women during the 1700s and 1800s? And who exactly was Mrs Bruins, and why is she remembered? Ms Gundry will unpack these stories and more during her presentation.

The event will take place on Thursday, August 14, at the Fish Hoek Library side hall. Doors open at 5pm and the talk begins at 5.30pm.

Entry is R20 for members and R30 for visitors, with 2025 membership fees of R50 now due. All payments are cash only.
