The Fish Hoek Mile Swim, presented by Fish Hoek Surf Lifesaving Club, takes place at Fish Hoek beach on Saturday, September 13, from 8.30am.

Event Organiser Scott Tait from Swim Cape Town said the mile swim is an important annual fundraiser for the Lifesaving Club as it helps to support their volunteer-based Lifeguard programme during the Lifesaving Season from November to April.

“As well as providing a very active Nipper programme with over 300 children, aged between 5 and 14 years old, learning the basics of lifesaving, sea skills and beach safety, every week throughout the summer,” he said.

Mr Tait said the swim follows the original swim route, starting from Clovelly Beach and finishing on the beach in front of Fish Hoek Surf Lifesaving Club. “ Swimmers will walk down the beach from Fish Hoek to the start of the race at Clovelly,” he said. On the day, swimmers are again encouraged to bring along a warm top and/or blanket on the day that can be used on the way to the start and thereafter donated at the drop-off point at Clovelly Beach.

“All clothing and blankets collected at The Fish Hoek Mile will be donated to this year's recipients, The Night Haven Shelter in Kalk Bay and Happy Valley home in Simon's Town,” said Mr Tait.
