Fish Hoek residents will have the chance to collect free home composting bins from the Fish Hoek Civic Centre on Saturday, October 11, between 8am and 12pm, as part of the City of Cape Town’s Home Composting Programme.
The initiative, run by the City’s Urban Waste Management Directorate, aims to reduce the amount of organic waste going to landfills and to help Cape Town reach its goal of diverting all waste from landfills by 2027. More than 50 000 residents have already benefited from the programme.
“Composting food waste at home not only reduces the environmental impact of organic waste, but also feeds your soil and results in a healthier, more productive garden," said mayoral committee member for urban waste management Grant Twigg.
To collect a bin, residents must be homeowners or tenants of a single residence (flats are excluded) and have a secure garden or yard. Bring along a copy of your municipal account and your ID or passport.
If you can’t attend the Fish Hoek session, you may visit any other scheduled session. For more information or to see other locations, visit https://bit.ly/4g8DbGg.
