Firefighters battle blaze along Glencairn Expressway

Smoke rises from the mountain slopes above the Glencairn Expressway as crews work to contain a vegetation fire fanned by strong south-easterly winds.

Fire crews are currently battling a vegetation fire along the Glencairn Expressway after the City’s Fire and Rescue Service received a call at around 12.45pm today.

According to Fire and Rescue Services spokesperson Jermaine Carelse, several crews are on site as a large section of mountain slopes is burning, with strong south-easterly winds fanning the flames.

The City’s Incident Management Team has been dispatched to coordinate operations.
