Step out and step up with Fish Hoek Lions Club to support victims of GBV

Fish Hoek Lions Club has asked men to step up and step out, in heels, against gender-based violence in a “Walk In Heels” on Saturday, December 6.

The club is calling on men in the community to take a short walk in heels at Longbeach Mall at 11am as a show of support for women and children who have been, and continue to be, subjected to gender-based violence.

The Fish Hoek Lions Club encourages men to follow in the footsteps of Callum Scott, Ruediger Hahn, Charles Flanagan, Ian Grove, and Craig Van Tonder during a "Walk In Heels", hosted by Tokai Lion Club, earlier this year at the Blue Route Mall.

The event forms part of the 2025 “16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence” campaign, which runs from Monday, November 25, to Wednesday, December 10. The global United Nations-supported campaign focuses on ending violence against women and girls. This year’s UN theme is “UNITE! Invest to prevent violence against women and girls”.

Fish Hoek Lions Club president Mandy Proctor said the project held meaning for members of the club who had been victims of, or had witnessed, gender-based violence.

“Fish Hoek Lions Club stands in solidarity with all women of our community and encourages them to speak out against GBV. We have a GBV counsellor in our club who is able to assist where needed,” she said.

She said the club hoped the community would attend and take a stand against gender-based violence.

Don't Look Away.
