The southeaster did not deter more than 200 visitors from attending the annual Switching on of the Christmas Lights at Jubilee Square on Sunday, December 7.

The event, organised by Simonstown.com in partnership with the Happy Valley Home Shelter, and some financial assistance from the Simon's Town Business Association (STBA), drew steady support from the community.

The highlight for the children was the arrival of Father Christmas by boat, while attendees enjoyed the performance by the SA Navy Band led by Lieutenant Commander Lindela Madikizela.

Visitors bought food from nearby establishments and joined in the Christmas carols.
