A man was arrested on Thursday, January 15, at Muizenberg Beach after attempting to steal a fully equipped container used by Law Enforcement officers as a mobile office during the busy summer season.

Wayne Dyason, spokesperson for Law Enforcement, said the incident began at around 9.28am when "an alert Law Enforcement officer observed a rigging truck at one of the hired containers. The officer was immediately curious because the container was still in use, which prompted him to investigate and call for assistance."

Upon approaching the scene, officers saw four individuals, two on the truck and two walking away.

According to Mr Dyason, "The driver approached the officers and stated that one of the individuals who walked away was the client responsible for hiring the rigging truck to transport the container to Delft."

The driver and another person, who identified themselves as legitimate employees of the truck hire company, assisted officers in identifying the suspects.

They were later spotted on the corner of Axminster and Royal Roads.

Mr Dyason said that one of the individuals, who had changed his clothing by that time, "was subsequently arrested and transported to Muizenberg police station," while the other escaped after getting into a vehicle.

Further investigation by police revealed that the arrested suspect “was wanted in connection with another case,” Mr Dyason added.
