Residents of Fish Hoek and Simon’s Town are being encouraged to plan for the Cape Town Cycle Tour, which takes place on Sunday, 8 March.
Approximately 25,000 cyclists will take on the scenic Cape Peninsula route, resulting in several roads in the Far South being closed or experiencing traffic delays on race day.
Recognised as one of the largest timed mass participation cycling events in the world, the Cape Town Cycle Tour continues to attract cyclists from across the globe to experience the beauty of the Cape Peninsula on two wheels.
In 2026, the 48th edition of the event will see riders tackle either the iconic 109 km route or the shorter 42 km course.
The organisers say it will also make history by joining the prestigious UCI Gran Fondo World Series, the world’s leading series of Gran Fondo cycling events, which features more than 35 races across the globe each year.
Participants will also have the chance to qualify for the 2026 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships, scheduled to take place from August 26 to 30 in Niseko, Japan.
The City of Cape Town and the Cycle Tour organisers are working together to ensure the safety of participants, crews, and the public. Traffic officers and marshals will be stationed along the route to manage the day’s events.
