The Fish Hoek Valley Museum is making it easier for people to visit, with new opening hours designed to suit more residents and school children.
Previously, the museum was only open Tuesday to Friday mornings from 9.30am to 12.30pm.
"Many people had expressed frustration that these hours didn’t fit their schedules, limiting opportunities to explore the museum’s displays," Sue Maude, curator of the Fish Hoek Valley Museum, said.
In response, the museum has introduced afternoon and Saturday openings.
Every Wednesday, the museum will now be open from 1pm to 4pm, giving school children a chance to drop in after school.
Visitors can explore the valley’s local history, view ancient stone tools, see the first ‘desktop’, guess the weight of a cannonball, and even try their hand at an archaeological ‘dig’ in a sandpit.
The museum will also open on the last Saturday of each month, from 10am to 2pm, with the first Saturday opening of the year on January 31.
Ms Maude said the changes were made with visitors in mind.
“We’ve heard from people that our previous hours didn’t work for them. These new times give families and school children more opportunities to enjoy the museum and learn about the history of the valley,” she said.
The new regular hours are:
Tuesday: 9.30am to 12.30pm
Wednesday: 1pm to 4pm
Thursday: 9.30am to 12.30pm
Last Saturday of the month: 10am to 2pm
Closed Monday and Friday
