What does “home” mean to you? That question lies at the heart of Noordhoek Art Point Gallery’s 2026 Out the Box exhibition, which invites artists of all ages and experience levels to explore the theme.
The much-loved annual exhibition, now in its fifth year, has become a standout event on the South Peninsula’s creative calendar.
What makes Out the Box different is its open-door approach: anyone with a passion for art is welcome to submit work, whether they are a professional artist, a weekend creative, or someone picking up a paintbrush for the first time in years.
Gallery owner Aimee Kruger said creating space for people who may not see themselves as “real” artists is a key part of the exhibition’s purpose.
“If I were to imagine myself starting out doing art in high school, the thought of being able to exhibit in a real gallery with real artists would have meant so much to me, so it’s great to be able to give this opportunity to others,” she said.
“Many people doubt their ability, but when we see their works, we can see their talents and help them grow. We now work with so many of the artists that we first met at these Out the Box exhibitions over the years.”
She said the 2026 theme, Threads of Home, is designed to spark deeply personal interpretations and reflects the exhibition’s long-standing focus on participation over perfection.
“Threads of Home speaks to something we all carry within us - whether it’s a place, a person, a memory or a feeling,” she said.
“We’re excited to see how our community interprets that idea in their own unique way.”
The theme invites artists to explore the often unseen connections that shape identity, belonging, and emotional landscapes - the invisible threads that tie people to their history, heritage, and sense of self.
Ms Kruger said the emotional range behind the idea of home is what makes the exhibition so special.
“Home means something different to everyone,” she said.
“It might be rooted in geography, family, culture or even a sense of longing. That emotional diversity is what makes this exhibition so special.”
The exhibition will run from Friday, March 27, to Thursday, April 28, at Noordhoek Art Point Gallery on Noordhoek Main Road. The opening event will take place on Saturday, March 28 at 6pm.
