A Masiphumelele-based non-profit organisation is expanding its skills development programme this year.

It is introducing a free, long-term beauty and wellness course to help residents gain practical skills and improve their chances of employment.

The course will run from March to November 2026 and will be offered free of charge to eight selected students.

Learn-Live-Support Masiphumelele is a registered Public Benefit Organisation dedicated to charitable work that benefits local communities and promotes social development.

Recognised as a non-profit entity under South African law, the organisation focuses on equipping people with the tools they need to build sustainable livelihoods.

One of its key initiatives is the Learn to Earn programme, an educational project designed to prepare participants for the workplace through “work readiness” courses.

The programme not only provides practical training but also helps build confidence — an essential factor in securing employment.

“Over the past five years, Learn Live Support has offered a range of short skills courses, including barista and hospitality training, computer basics, domestic work, manicure and pedicure, and baking,” said Doris Kaemper, CEO of Learn Live Support Masiphumelele.

“These courses have helped many participants develop professional skills that have enabled them to find work.”

This year marks an important step forward for the organisation as it introduces its first long-term course in the hair, beauty and wellness field.

As part of the training, learners will gain hands-on experience in a variety of beauty and wellness treatments. These include facials, waxing, massage, manicures, pedicures, hair washing and blow-drying, as well as cutting and braiding hair.

The beauty training will be led by Jackie Hall, who will guide students through the practical and professional aspects of the course, helping them build skills that could open doors to employment or self-employment in the growing beauty industry.
