Expect snoek braais, a food court, a beer garden, live entertainment, fun rides, face painting and more at this year’s Hout Bay Carnival and Fish Derby, in the Hout Bay Harbour, from Friday December 20 to Sunday December 22, say the organisers.
“Can you catch the largest fish? This is our call to everyone wanting to take part in the Fish Derby. The Carnival and Fish Derby is built around the image of the past annual Snoek Derby and Crayfish Derby which was founded in 1979,” said one of the organisers, Roscoe Jacobs.
Visitors can look forward to plenty of activities at this year’s event.
There will be live entertainment with Mr Thela on Friday, Temple Boys on Saturday and DJ Masoodah on Sunday.
“We call on all fishers to be part of the Fish Derby, which is a much-anticipated event for enthusiastic fishers. Three grand prizes of R20 000 are up for grabs for each winner of the biggest catch of West Coast rock lobster and snoek,” says Mr Jacobs.
The Fish Derby starts on Sunday at 7am, and the last boats will have to come in by 3pm, after which time the fish will be entered in for the competition, weighed and the winners declared.
Over 20 boats are expected to enter this year and over 3 000 supporters and spectators are anticipated at the Hout Bay Harbour Carnival and Fish Derby.
Another organiser, Bongani Tokwe, said the event was meant to show off Hout Bay as a choice destination for tourism, investment, business and leisure, and Mr Jacobs said it also aimed to promote upliftment for children, women and the disabled in the community.
Tickets are available through Quicket. To enter the Fish Derby, email fishderby@hbhc&fd.co.za or call or WhatsApp 072 582 9183.
