Checkers in Sun Valley Mall was closed on Monday April 27 due to a Covid-19 scare.
In a statement issued to the media, Shoprite Holdings said the store was closed for a decontamination and deep clean after a support employee to Checkers Sun Valley Mall tested positive for the virus.
“We have informed The National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD) and the Department of Health and have put in place an employee screening programme,” the statement read.
However, Checkers Sun Valley Mall store manager, who asked not to be named as he was not allowed to speak to the media, said most staff tested negative for Covid-19 and the store will re-open in the morning.
“A few staff members must still be tested but they are not on duty tomorrow and will not come close to the store,” he said.
The store will be fumigated and sanitised at 5pm today.
He added that Checkers screened all its staff every morning by measuring their temperatures before they were allowed to enter the store.
Security guards were placed outside the main entrance to advise customers that the store was closed.
