The City is looking for new seasonal lifeguards for its beaches and public pools.
The job is the first line of defence in the prevention of drowning and comes with great responsibility, says mayoral committee member for community services and health Patricia van der Ross.
“Every year we draw hundreds of hopefuls, and I have no doubt that this year will see similar interest. I want to encourage applicants to carefully check the requirements to ensure that they are eligible but also to make sure that their applications are completed in full, with all of the supporting documentation, submitted as soon as possible.”
Potential candidates will undergo competency testing. They will have to pass a compulsory swim and rescue test and demonstrate first aid skills.
Beach lifeguard applicants have to swim 400 metres in a swimming pool in under eight minutes and do a combined 200m beach run, 300m sea swim and 200m beach run in under 10 minutes. Pool lifeguard applicants must swim 100m in under two minutes.
Applicants must be drug-free and have a clean criminal record with no pending charges.
Applicants can apply on the City’s website at capetown.gov.za by registering on the e-recruitment service and completing the application form before the deadline on Tuesday June 18.
