The case involving Sekhukhune United player Shaun Mogaila, who is facing charges of culpable homicide, reckless and negligent driving and fleeing the scene, has been postponed for further investigation.
Mogaila appeared at the Thembisa Magistrate Court on Tuesday after being granted bail last year.
He was involved in a fatal crash last year in October last year, which killed nine-year-old girl Gomolemo Mavimbela. Keo, Mavimbela’s mother, who was driving, and a 13-year-old boy, was hospitalised.
Inside the court on Tuesday, Advocate Xolani Khumalo told magistrate Mmule Phatshwane that the state is requesting a postponement to obtain the post-mortem report and J88 medical reports.
Phatshwane said the matter was postponed to May 19 for further investigations.
Mogaila’s black BMW car collided with a red Hyundai i10 driven by Keo Mavimbela on Andrew Mapheto Drive in Tembisa, in October 2024.
Suspected cocaine, edibles, and pricey Don Julio tequila bottles were allegedly found in the vehicle belonging to the PSL soccer star. Mogaila allegedly fled the scene and handed himself over to police later on the same day, the City of Ekurhuleni Metro Police (EMPD) said.

Mogaila, a right back and right winger of Sekhukhune United, joined the Limpopo club from Shauwn Mkhize’s Royal AM during the transfer window.
Last year in November, in his first court appearance, State prosecutor Maxwell Randima said the PSL star is facing charges of culpable homicide, reckless and negligent driving, and fleeing the scene.
Randima said the State has no grounds to oppose his bail application.
Mogaila’s lawyer Octavius Magunda said his client pockets R40,000 per month and that he can afford a bail of R5,000.
“The accused will be able to pay that amount because he is supporting his family, paying R8,500 for his BMW, and R13,500 for his bond.”
However, Magistrate Hlengiwe Malevu slapped Mogaila with a bail of R20,000, with no additional conditions, and postponed the case to February 4, 2025, for further investigations.
“The State has to investigate an outstanding video footage, postmortem report, as well as the J88 which is a medical report and statement that will have to be obtained,” Malevu said.
Meanwhile, Keo and their 14-year-old neighbour's son survived the crash with serious injuries and were hospitalised.
Both Keo and the son were ready from hospital in December last year and are recovering at home using crutches, according to reports.
