Eight men appeared in the Simon’s Town Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday January 19 on charges relating to the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.
Fish Hoek police spokesman Captain Scharl Basson said the men were arrested on Sunday January 17 after police spotted a suspicious vehicle on CCTV cameras.
Officers stopped and searched the minibus taxi on the corner of Glencairn Expressway and Kommetjie Road.
Six firearms and ammunition were found in a concealed compartment in the vehicle, he said.
Captain Basson said the suspects, who range in age from 34 to 45, all have previous convictions and the case was transferred to the Taxi Violence Unit for further investigation on Monday January 18.
