You’re the one that I want! Ah, ah, ah ” Yes, get out your leathers, your cars, your curlers and your makeup: the musical Grease will be hitting the Masque Theatre stage in December, opening on Thursday December 15 and running until Friday December 23.
This popular musical is set in the 1950s and is full of well-known, toe-tapping songs such as Greased Lightening, You’re the One That I Want and We Go Together. The story follows the up-and-down relationship between new girl in town, Sandy Dumbrowski, and cool kid, Danny Zuko. The two have a secret summertime romance – but when they get back to school, everything is different.
Sandy attempts to navigate the tricky Rydell High School social waters and catch Danny’s attention again, but Danny is chiefly concerned with maintaining his tough-guy reputation. In the end, the Pink Ladies help Sandy figure out how to win back the leader of the Burger Palace Boys.
The vibrant and energetic cast is led by Nicolette Fernandes and Benton-Steele Botes as Sandy and Danny.
The theatre’s very own manager, Nicola Date, will also be up on stage and entertaining audiences in dual roles as principal Miss Lynch and Beauty School Dropout’s Teen Angel. Bringing their artistic vision to life is director Darryl Spijkers and musical director Wesley Wolhuter. Spijkers has won several CATAs over the years including Best Musical in 2015 for this very same production.
Grease is presented by the Masque Theatre and will serve as a fundraiser for the community theatre. With this production, the Masque hopes to raise money to keep the venue running smoothly, as well as providing some first-class holiday entertainment.
