Children in Ocean View had a day of fun making kites from bread packets, refuse bags and bamboo, on Saturday August 28, under the watchful eye of Jasiem Slarmie, who showed them how to make kites. The kite festival was coordinated by community leader and activist Paul Franke. “We want to change the mindset of the children to do things that children should be doing. They should be having fun and making things like we did when we were kids and not joining gangs,” he said.
Children at the kite festival were given beanies, scarves, gloves, bread, fruit juice and hot dogs.
