The Kommetjie Festival, on Saturday November 16, promises a day of fun in the sun for all, says festival organising committee member Ingrid le Roux.
Proceeds from the event will support the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI), Komwatch, the Kommetjie Neighbourhood Watch, and the Volunteer Wildfire Services. Other recipients are Tilly’s Wellness, a Masiphumelele non-profit helping vulnerable women and children; HopeTown, which does community upliftment in Ocean View; and the Kom Run Club.
The festival will take place at various spots across Kommetjie from 6.45am to 11.45pm and includes the dress-up surfing competition, sandcastle building, a potjiekos competition, volleyball, “boere sports”, a tiny-tot race and more.
There will be a market, food stalls and free entry to Slangkop Lighthouse, and printed T-shirts and caps and Kommetjie bumper stickers will be on sale.
“We have tons of sponsors for the events, and we will be handing out prizes for most of the activities,” said Ms Le Roux.
The Anything That Floats event, where participants have to make a craft from scratch without using any manufactured floating devices and race to a buoy in the Old Kom and back, was a popular activity, but there was only space for 30 entrants so it was important to book in advance, she said.
Tickets for certain events are available on the Kommetjie Festival Facebook Page and others on Quicket. Visit komfestival.co.za for more information.
