According to Cape of Diab archives, in 1903, Lambert Colyn opened a quarry at the side of the Clovelly Road on the site of the present electrical sub-station. He was given permission to build a railway line to the siding at Fish Hoek to load his stone. To do this, he had to build a bridge over the Silvermine River and a line that ran alongside the Simon's Town line to the siding near the farmhouse. After the quarry's closure, the railway line remained, and by 1930, it had become hazardous to traffic where it crossed the Main Road, as the tracks were slightly below the road level.
