The South African Naval Museum hosted a book launch of Professor André Wessels's A Century of South African Naval History on Thursday March 31. Professor Wessels is a senior professor emeritus and a research fellow in the department of history at the University of the Free State in Bloemfontein. The history of the South African Navy and its predecessors is one of his main research focus areas, and, in the course of more than four decades, he has published extensively in this regard. Museum curator Commander Leon Steyn led the book discussion with an overview of South African naval historiography through the years. Professor Wessels introduced his new book to the audience followed by a question-and-answer session. The invited guests viewed the Naval Museum's new 100 Years of Naval Forces exhibition, which is now open to the public. A Century of South African Naval History can be ordered from Naledi Publishers at info@naledi.co.za or by calling 078 648 8616. It is also on sale at the Naval Museum in Simon's Town.
