The source of small amounts of oil spotted on Clovelly Beach last week is still unknown, according to the City of Cape Town. Mayoral committee member for spatial planning and environment Eddie Andrews said members of the public reported the spillage on Tuesday March 8. “The City’s Coastal Management team found some clumps of oil along the shoreline and immediately alerted the solid waste department to conduct a clean-up operation. We are unsure of the source but can confirm that it was not a significant amount, and we have not seen oil impacts on any wildlife yet,” he said, adding that the City would continue to monitor the situation.
