Meet the makers but remember to maintain a physical distance.

With the recent Covid resurgence there is nothing better than being outdoors. The market-type experience is increasingly popular, where visitors get to meet the makers and it generally lends itself to social distancing.

Here’ a round-up of lcoal markets that will take you on a tour of the peninsula, and further afield, starting at the V&A Waterfront.

Oranjezicht City Farm and Market

Grand Parade

The market at the Grand Parade in Darling Street in the city centre, is open on Wednesdays and Saturdays. It is the oldest and once was the biggest flea market in the Western Cape. Call 079 925 5260 for details

Greenmarket Square

Pick up African curious, clothing and other little nicknacks at Greenmarket Square African Market on Burg and Longmarket streets, contact 067 678 8277.

Neighbourgoods Market

Milnerton Market

Milnerton Market is open on Saturdays, including public holidays but not on New Year’s Day, Friday January 1. It is open from 7am until 2pm, and located at Marine Drive (R27) opposite Metro Industrial Park, Paarden Eiland. From vintage to valuables, junk to gems, décor and fashion, it’s an open-air bazaar on a dusty seaside patch of ground. Edgemead Christmas Market

The Edgemead Christmas Market will be smaller than normal but it will still have a great selection of products created by over 200 Cape crafters and artisans. It takes place until Wednesday December 23, from 10am to 8pm, at Edgemead Community Hall, Edgemead Drive. Parow Market

Parow Market is open on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, from 8am to 2pm, in King Edward Street, Parow.

Pinelands Craft and Gift Fair

Rondebosch Park Market

Rondebosch Park Market takes place under the trees in Campground and Sandown roads on Wednesday December 23, from 3pm to 8pm. Support Animal Rescue organisation's stand and tuck into coffee, pancakes, smoothies, snacks, books, bonsai, bric-a-brac and great gifting ideas.

Bergvliet Charity Shop

Bergvliet Charity Shop will be open until Thursday December 24, when it closes at 1pm. Trading resumes from Monday January 4 between 9am and 5pm, Saturdays from 9am to 1pm, at 51 Main Road, Bergvliet, call 021 715 7525.

Simply South Indoor Gift and Craft Fair

Simply South Indoor Gift and Craft Fair will take place until Wednesday December 23, from 9.30am to 7pm, at Westcott Primary School, Boundary Road, Boundary Road, Bergvliet. Entry is free. The market is a shopper’s delight, full of inspirational ideas and hand-picked innovative products from over 200 crafters from all over the peninsula.A raffle will run for the duration of the market and the proceeds will be donated to Imbali. Earth Fair Market

Earth Fair Market takes place on December 23 and 30, from 2pm to 9pm, at 333 Main Road, Tokai. There will be clothing, arts and crafts, food, drinks and plenty of free parking.
