The letter refers to “Solution to clear sand from tracks in the pipeline” (Echo, February 8).
For two years I travelled daily on the train from Simon’s Town to Cape Town in 1959/60. The train ran like clockwork. There was never sand on the rail.
The South African Railways made sure that the line was clear each and every day.
Now we have no responsibility by anyone. Everything is sub-contracted out and no one takes responsibility. But no doubt they all get paid.
“Slapgat” is what the present situation is. The sewerage debacle into Sand Vlei is another example of the blame game. Unprofessional supervision “meaning I am not understanding”!
