1st Muizenberg Sea Scouts, from left, Nathan Bosch, Nathan Ellis, and Stephen Bosch, put their mental and physical endurance to the test to complete a survival interest badge course designed for older scouts. The course started with a weekend of theory on Saturday and Sunday August 10 and 11 when the scouts learned how to find food and water, build shelters, navigate unfamiliar terrain and spot hazards in the wild. The practical part took place at the Scout Ranch in Wellington from Friday September 6 to Sunday September 8, and the Hawequas mountains served as the backdrop for this wilderness challenge. Stephen was awarded the Bear Grylls award for best survivor.
