This recent picture shows the Sweetest Thing store where the Runciman Building once was.This is looking up Alfred Lane, from St George’s Street, towards the Noorul Islam Mosque, in the mid 1980s. Initially, religious services for the Muslim community were conducted wherever suitable accommodations were available. However, in 1888, an old house located on Thomas Street was renovated and used as a place of worship. In 1911, the Muslim community acquired the building, and the construction of the current mosque was finished in 1926.
