Wade Beukes, a Grade 9 Fish Hoek High School pupil, has been selected for the national open-water swimming team. The Ocean View teen qualified for Western Province and swam the 3km and 5km SA Champs at Marina Martinique in Jeffreys Bay in March. Wade will be competing in 3km and 5km swims in a water-filled quarry in Zambia on Monday April 18. Wade says it becomes "mind over matter" while swimming these distances. “You have to talk to yourself and continue to motivate yourself.”
