Shark Spotters and UCT biological science postgraduate students held a clean-up at Surfers Corner, in Muizenberg, on Saturday to celebrate World Oceans Day, which is held annually on June 8. Shark Spotters education manager Taryn van Neel said cigarette butts are the most common thing picked up off the beach followed by chip and chocolate wrappers, balloons, plastic bottle tops, straws, sucker sticks, fishing rope and line, and pieces of glass.
