I am writing this letter with pent-up anger and irritation at the disgusting state of the Fish Hoek Main Road. The pavements are so filthy dirty, they are a health hazard.
The sweepers do their job, but nothing is done about the ingrained dirt, urine and heaven knows what on the pavements. One can hardly walk without your shoe getting stuck on whatever is there.
I cannot understand why, in this time of the pandemic, and the importance of sanitisation, nothing is done about this horrendous situation.
It does not help to lay the blame at the door of the landlords, as many are missing in action. Surely it is important enough for the powers-that-be (who expect us to vote them in again) to address this situation. We asked for street signs to be refreshed and repainted. That, too, fell on deaf ears.

The City’s cleansing branch would like to investigate this matter in person, to understand the nature of the problem and how best to address it. This warrants investigation because pavements are hosed down daily, and water tankers flush the ground surface every morning at 5am to maintain cleanliness in the Fish Hoek Main Road and station areas.
The City’s solid waste management department does ground washing, street sweeping in the CBD and surrounds and litter picking in all areas of Fish Hoek Main Road, seven days a week. Furthermore, the green litter bins are serviced daily and maintenance teams attend to illegal dumping along Fish Hoek Main Road and surrounds.
