Laureen Mostert, main organiser of the Salty Ducks tidal pool challenge
On Saturday December 7 a raft of Salty Ducks, supporters and friends, set off from St James tidal pool on their journey to swim all ten tidal pools and raise money for The Safe House.
They set out with a goal of reaching R30 000 and through sheer duck positivity, radio interviews, and press articles, not to mention gentle cajoling of friends and family, managed to double the amount.
By Sunday December 8, a whopping R60 733 had been raised for this admirable charity that gives abused women and children a safe place to heal, rebuild and reconnect.
We can’t thank everyone enough for the incredible support they gave us. We are overwhelmed by the response received and are truly grateful we could play a small part in making a difference to those in our community who really need it.
• The Safe House executive director Kathy Cronje said: “The money will go towards running costs, such as nappies, formula, medical services, transport, administration and many other costs. I would like to very sincerely thank everyone involved and those who donated. I am speechless and extremely grateful at the amount of money raised. Thank you.”
