IT feels like Winter is on our doorstep as we find ourselves starting to reach for our scarves and sweaters. Autumn is here and it’s time to watch our beautiful leaves change colour, like chameleons on trees and we’re slowly packing away our Summer gear and bringing out more and more pieces to keep us warm from the chills. While we change our Summer wardrobes for Winter, we need to do the same for our skin. Skin health and wellness is becoming more and more important as the climate changes and we’re more focused on living healthier lives inside and out. Stress levels are high and challenges aplenty for many of us which also takes its toll on our skin health, mental health and our appearances. I chatted to Lishan Naidoo, Skoon’s Somatologist about what's new in the world of skincare.

Lishan says “Skincare trends in 2025 are all about science, sustainability and personalization. One can expect AI-powered diagnostics, biotech-driven ingredients, and ultra-customized routines.” She added “minimalist skincare will dominate the industry, with multi-functional products reducing clutter. Sustainability remains key, with waterless formulas such as our nano-pillows and refillable packaging is gaining traction too.” Yay… looking after ourselves can be good for the environment too!.

The guru says that skin barrier health is taking center stage, with microbiome-friendly and adaptogenic ingredients leading the way. I’ll have to look those fancy words up. Lastly, wellness-infused skincare—merging stress relief, sleep support, and skin health—will shape the industry. The future of beauty is smarter, greener, and more holistic than ever. Local is lekker and so is the lovely Lishan. Products made right here in our beautiful SA are also made especially for our climate so here’s one last bit of advice from the skincare expert. “As the seasons shift from Summer to Autumn, your skin requires extra hydration, barrier support, and gentle exfoliation to maintain a healthy glow. With cooler temperatures and drier air, adopting a skincare routine tailored for the transition can help protect and nourish your skin.“

Another great tip is to go for structured water as opposed to our normal H2O as it absorbs better at a cellular level keeping skin plumper for longer. Think Aloe Vera, Coconut water and Chia seeds. Delicious. While we’re talking about diet, let's also remember to add foods rich in antioxidants, omega-3 fatty acids, and vitamins like C and E. Sprinkle berries in your salads or pop them into your smoothies. Think green as green tea, avocados, spinach and broccoli are great at keeping skin healthy, hydrated and supple! Go nuts with almonds, walnuts, peanuts and hazelnuts. They’re filled with vitamin E, minerals and antioxidants. Now that you know what to do for your skin let’s chat wardrobe.

Nelene tells me that Autumn 2025 fashion blends vintage elegance with modern edge, featuring oversized blazers, textured knits, and rich hues like deep burgundy, olive, and mustard. Carlene adds that makeup trends highlight bold eyes with copper and metallic shadows, sharp liners, and glossy berry lips. Matte complexions and flushed cheeks complement earthy tones, creating a sophisticated yet effortless seasonal aesthetic. I think we’re going “less is more” with skin and beauty going forward.
