A children's puppet show called Ka-BOOM! will show at the Baxter Theatre on Saturday June 14.
Ka-BOOM! follows the misadventures of Squish and Splat, whose fight over a plastic bag leads to an unexpected escapade. The plastic bag, Lucky, once a prehistoric fish fossilised into oil and then plastic, discovers the unintended consequences of its existence. As the heroes try to save Lucky from himself, they unravel the greater threat of plastic pollution in the oceans and the apathy that surrounds it.
The show offers a unique and empathetic perspective on people's responses to the climate crisis, highlighting the anxiety and apathy that often accompany such daunting issues.
Ka-BOOM! is written and directed by Tshiamo Moretlwe from St James while Sophie Joans from Observatory also assisted in the writing of the puppet show.
The puppetry is performed by Lize-Marie Wait from Durbanville, Kyla Jansen from Kuilsriver and Chloe van Rooyen from Woodstock.
The 45-minute puppet show will be performed in Afrikaans.
Ka-BOOM! will feature at the Baxter Theatre on Saturday June 14, for a 9am show and 11am show. Tickets cost between R100 and R200 and is available at Webtickets or visit the Baxter Theatre.
