Cape Town lacing up knockout specialists
In an exciting display of boxing prowess, four rising stars have emerged from the Western Cape boxing scene, captivating audiences with their lightning-fast speed, skill and devastating punching ability.
Asekho Nocele, Asavela Peter, Jose Kadima and Ardy Katompa have quickly established themselves as knockout specialists, leaving their opponents in fear and securing their places among the boxing elite.
They were in action at the Maxim Boxing Promotions showcase Fight for Change XI and Warriors Rise at the Hope Street Hall in Gardens on Friday.
Hailing from the vibrant township of Khayelitsha, Asekho Nocele, fighting out of the Hardnox Boxing Club in Sea Point, has wasted no time in making his mark.
Nocele, who is the younger brother of the Terrible Twins, Bongani and Zumbonge, made his professional debut in the bantamweight division. Nocele faced Loyiso Lothango from Gqeberha. Despite his opponent's wrist injury, Nocele's impressive performance led to a second-round technical knockout, leaving no doubt about his power and potential.
Philippi’s Asavela Peter, nurtured under the watchful eyes of professional trainer Zola Koti and manager Jeremy Bean, at Future Champs, has carried his promising amateur career into the professional realm.
In a highly anticipated debut last week, Peter faced Luthando Makubalo from Gqeberha in a mini flyweight bout. Displaying speed and precision, Peter secured a TKO victory within the first 30 seconds of the fight, announcing his arrival on the professional boxing stage in emphatic fashion.
In the heavyweight division, Jose Kadima, fighting out of Relentless Boxing and Fitness, made lightwork of Veron Bella Mbembo. Kadima secured a second-round TKO victory after referee Deon Dwarte counted out Mbembo.
Meanwhile, Ardy Katompa, a true force to be reckoned with in the featherweight division, has been leaving a trail of destruction in his wake. In his debut fight a few months ago, he demonstrated his prowess with a commanding TKO win over an opponent from Limpopo.
Katompa further solidified his reputation. In a third-round TKO victory over Sibusiso Moyakhe from Gqeberha, Katompa unleashed a streak of powerful punches, leaving no doubt about his dominance in the ring.
