Dean Burmester pocketed nearly R20m at the LIV Golf event at Riyadh Golf Club in Saudi Arabia over the weekend.
Burmester finished fourth on 14-under and pocketed a cool million dollars which works out to a quite incredible R18.4m.
The 35-year-old compiled rounds of 66 71 and 65 to finish three shots behind Poland’s Adrian Meronk who won on 17-under as he collected a whopping $4 million (R73.9m). Spain’s Jon Rahm was second on 15-under alongside Colombia’s Sebastian Munoz.
After the tournament, Stingers team member Burmester, though not going into detail about his own performance said he was already looking forward to the next event in Australia starting on Friday.
“I finished in fourth place, one out of a podium. Got really close, personally, and the team, collectively, 12 under (on the final day), we made big leaps and bounds - to hopefully contend in Australia,” said Burmester.
“We all love that golf course, and we're looking forward to get one up on the Aussies. Thanks for tuning in this week and watching us. We fought really hard and it wasn't our best stuff, but hopefully we can improve and then get better before Australia.”
Burmester’s Stingers teammate and countryman Louis Oosthuizen was the next best South African on the leaderboard in 25th place on seven-under. For his efforts, the 2010 Open champion earned $195,000 which works out to a handy R3.6m.
Charl Schwartzel ended 33rd on five-under to earn $155,00 or R2.8m.
Branden Grace was second from last in 52nd place on one-over, but still earned $50,000 which was just under a million rand at R923,419.
