Superstar forward Mohamed Salah has officially signed a new two-year contract with Premier League leaders Liverpool.
The news, revealed on Friday, secures the Egyptian superstar's future at Anfield for the next two years, where he has become synonymous with success and brilliance since joining from Roma in 2017.
At 32, Salah has etched his name into the club's history, amassing a remarkable tally of 243 goals in just 394 appearances, making him Liverpool's third highest goalscorer of all time. His influence has been pivotal in the club's triumphs, lifting the UEFA Champions League and the Premier League.
The news is also a major boost for the Reds as they look to wrap up the Premier League. Liverpool have hit a bit of speed-wobble of late, following their exit from the FA Cup and Champions League and defeat in the League Cup final against Newcastle United.
This season alone, Salah has recorded an impressive 27 goals and provided 17 assists in the Premier League, propelling his team into a commanding 11-point lead over Arsenal with only seven matches remaining.
“Of course I’m very excited. We have a great team now. Before also we had a great team. But I signed because I think we have a chance to win other trophies," Salah said in a club statement.
“It’s great, I had my best years here. I played eight years, hopefully it’s going to be 10. Enjoying my life here, enjoying my football. I had the best years in my career."
Earlier this week, Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has said "progress" has been made in talks over a much-discussed new deal to keep him at Anfield.
However, it seems like right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold will not be renewing his deal with the Liverpool and has been strongly linked with a free transfer to Spanish giants Real Madrid.
