Cape Town City avoided a fifth successive Betway Premiership defeat, but the 1-1 stalemate with TS Galaxy at the Athlone Stadium on Wednesday night left their coach, Muhsin Ertugral, highly frustrated.
His frustration stemmed from City's dominance in the game, yet they were forced to settle for a share of the spoils. At the post-match press conference, Ertugral said: "I'm very frustrated at the moment.
"I must be careful and get in line (in order) because I don't want to say something wrong.
"It's always difficult after a game we dominate, especially in the first 30 minutes. The moment we scored (in the 31st minute), I asked my assistants — the coaches next to me — what we needed to do more.
"Holding on to the ball is an important element for us, and when we couldn't, you could see they (Galaxy) were coming more at us, putting more pressure on us, especially in the second zone. For our build-up process, that caused problems."
After identifying some problem areas, Ertugral said important decisions had to be made at half-time. Some of the concerns he needed to address as the coach were strange because he had not encountered them in 40 years of coaching.
"For me, there were decisions to make at half-time. Should I reshuffle the midfield, or what should we do on the wings? It was something that I couldn't correct. As a coach, this frustrates me to pieces," said Ertugral.
"When we get into the box, the positioning is there. We did this every time, and when you look at the video, you will see that every time, the specific positions were spot on.
"We have also worked on the (box) entries and where we enter. The ball just does not come (to us), and that's something that I don't understand. It’s something I have not experienced in 40 years of my football career.
"For the first 10 to 15 minutes, we had three chances at goal. Then you have a right-foot (scoring opportunity), but you go with the left. While you have your right foot, why are you going with the left? It doesn't make sense to me.
"All these situations add up. I'm getting frustrated too, because these (concerns) are not coachable. They're not coaching issues—it's just vision. And that's what makes me ask: how can I coach that?"
With this outcome, City remained 10th in the standings after registering their fourth league draw of the season.
Since City are out of the Nedbank Cup, Ertugral will turn his attention to a league match against his former club, Kaizer Chiefs, scheduled for March 12.
Galaxy remained seventh in the standings after fighting back to deny City a win. Coach Adnan Beganovic's side will be keen to return to winning ways when they face SuperSport United in a league clash on March 11.
