Rockets burn past Citizens to keep their top half velocity

Nowadays, TS Galaxy make light work of Cape Town opposition.

Earlier this week, Galaxy sent Vasco da Gama packing with a 7-0 hiding in a Nedbank Cup clash and on Sunday they defeated Cape Town City 2-0 in a Betway Premiership match at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit.

The result ensures the Rockets move into 10th place on the log and City drop down to seventh place.

Adnan Beganović, Galaxy's Bosnia-Herzegovina coach, sent out his charges to take the game to the Mother City visitors. Instead of lying deep, City tried to adopt a similar approach and the game oscillated between one end to the other, with Galaxy looking the likelier to score.

By the time the first half reached the halfway mark, Galaxy had managed four shots at goal and City shot-stopper Darren Keet was kept on his toes but kept his goals intact. At the other end, Ira Eliezer Tapé, Galaxy's Ivorian goalkeeper lived a charmed life as City failed to land a shot on target.

Given Galaxy's dominance, the match was crying out for a score and defender Samukelo Kabini, handily placed after a poorly defended corner, drew first blood for the Mbombela hosts, seven minutes ahead of half-time.

City's response was almost immediate as Venezuelan Darwin González was sent clear, but he hashed his scoring attempt at a time when the Galaxy's defence was at sixes and sevens.

Just when the teams were preparing to retire from first-half action, Galaxy's new Bosnia-Herzegovina signing Dženan Zajmović produced a deft goal with a curling shot at a time when Keet was well off his line, to double his side's lead.

City were far more penetrative early in the second half and managed two shots on target but goalie Tapé averted danger and the visitors came away empty-handed.

Late in the match, Aprocius Petrus, City's defensive midfielder came close but struck the crossbar. Galaxy scored in injury time but the goal was controversially disallowed.

City return to action on Wednesday when they host struggling Golden Arrows at Athlone Stadium.
