The month of love has arrived and there can be added pressure to make your Valentine’s Day one to remember. But, whether you celebrate or not, it’s always good to know some wonderful restaurants that are perfect for date night. South Africa is home to some incredible culinary spaces and we all know that Cape Town has no shortage of great restaurants to.

A Cape Town icon, Haiku is still standing strong after 17 years in the business. If you love Asian food, low ambient lighting and want to go out in the city centre - this is the pick for you. Haiku serves up small plates of delectable delights including tasty dim sum, more-ish sushi and flavourful wok dishes all year round.
Nestled in the beautiful Helderberg, Stefan’s is an intimate fine dining experience in a modern yet comfortable setting. The restaurant was designed to create a sophisticated and chic space, where diners could enjoy unique dishes without it feeling too pretentious. Chef Stefan Bekker’s menu has the option of seven or ten flavoursome courses for dinner, which changes with the seasons.
If Korean cuisine is more your vibe - head over to this Johannesburg eatery. Tucked away on the corner of 10th Street and Elizabeth Avenue in Parkmore, family-owned eatery Banchan, meaning ‘side dish’ in Korean, offers a feeling of warm familiarity like old friends welcoming you to share a meal in their home. This unassuming Korean barbecue spot is a genre of restaurant found few and far between in Johannesburg’s diverse food scene. Perfect for a laidback date night out with your loved one.
Finally, if nothing but seafood will do, why not try oysters? South Africa is home to a variety of marine molluscs, so much so we’re even got a place named Oyster Bay. If you’re a fan of this delicacy (which can be an acquired taste), there’s nothing better than sharing some oysters with a good glass of wine or champagne.
